How to Organize Reusable Bags

Tips to declutter all those reusable bags, Ziplocks and/or paper bags!

⭐ Choose one type of bag to clear, clean and organize so the next time you go to grab one, your inner Self will say THANK YOU!⭐

Remember: the smaller the category, the easier it is to complete.

Do Ziplocks plague you? Clean ones here, unclean ones there, a box here, a few boxes there...

Do you have waaaay more reusable shopping bags than you could ever use?

Do you have shopping bags are pouring out of every home orifice?

Are paper bags or purses piling up?

⭐Choose one type of bag and get 'er done today!⭐

As with all organizing projects, I break bag organizing into these steps:

  1. Gather everything in the category

  2. Put on your Honesty Eyes

  3. Choose your absolute favorites

  4. Donate or toss unwanted ones

  5. *Make happy home for the ones you're keeping*

  6. Practice putting them back in their homes (every time)

*Tips for making homes for items:

Priority #1: easy to put away.

If it isn't easy to put away when you're done using it, you likely won't put it away. "It looks pretty here" or "I wish I could keep it here" likely won't motivate you to ACTUALLY put things away there.

Priority #2: easy to find.

Think of your Future Self - where will they go to look first for this thing? Where would it be easy to grab in the shortest amount of time, with the least amount of effort?

Priority #3: Take up as little space as possible.

Let your Self be creative, clean the homes you choose, and complete the job so your Future Self will thank you (empty the trash, take donations to their final destination, wash dirty bags, make it all pretty...)

EXTRA TIDYING TIP: storing upright takes up less space. Even my washed ziplocks are stored upright!

Left photo: 3 jars with my plastic bags - smallest in the front, middle sized in the middle jar, shopping sized in the back jar.

Middle photo: Paper bags - folded in half and put into a paper bag cut in half (see this video for how I do this)

Right photo: My Ziplock and fabric napkin drawer. I keep reused Ziplocks folded in half or thirds between the inside of the drawer and the boxes. I keep the sizes separate so it's easy to grab what I need.

Here's a video of how I manage the reusable shopping bags I've chosen to keep...though I forgot to mention the two cute little packable bags I keep in my purse!

Happy Organizing! I'd love to hear how it goes and see before and after photos!
