AKA how I turned my messy room into an Awesome Bedroom to Wake up In.

My bedroom before Declutter Day with my TidyWild Declutter Club
Maybe your room is a giant cluttered mess, or maybe it just has a layer of clutter after a couple busy weeks like I had recently...
Either way, if you want turn your messy bedroom into an Awesome Bedroom to Wake Up In, here are the steps I use to do this in my own home.
FIRST: Turn big, unrealistic goals into a clear, bite-sized intention
This is SO IMPORTANT to help us stay focused when our busybody brains try making us to do ANYTHING other than what we're trying to do...
How do we break down giant, unrealistic goals so we don't get overwhelmed?
Some options you can do:
take deep breaths (seriously, it's wild how much this can help)
journal
walk through the house and allow yourself to hear/see what jumps out
talk through options with a friend or loved one you trust and who knows you well
(if these don't work, I recommend joining the Declutter Club and/or scheduling a private call with me)
THIS IS AN UNREALISTIC GOAL for one day:
I'll declutter the whole house AND build a set of shelves (even though I'm sooo tired from a long week away from home).
This was my giant, unrealistic goal that likely would've left me feeling totally overwhelmed and feeling deflated at the end of the day.
I turned this into the much simpler, doable task:
I'll make my bedroom feel wonderful to wake up in.
What helped me today was an breathing/visualization exercise that calmed my nervous system and connected me to my Future Self in the beginning of my Declutter Club call.
Sometimes I just mentally keep breaking down giant goals until I land on a SMALL, DOABLE task.
I'm happy to report that I did get my bedroom AND kitchen cleared, but I started with doing the bedroom aaalllll the way...
Here are the steps I took:
Prepared my body:
got a bottle of water
drank some
peed
ate protein
Took a before photo (to really SEE what all was there)
Set the kitchen stove timer for 30 minutes (so my phone wouldn't distract me)
Made my bed for a clear platform to put categories on
Made categorized piles + put dirty laundry in hamper (did NOT leave the room!):
bathroom
hang in closet
shoes
take downstairs
donate
Put easiest things away first (ONLY items that belong in the room - don't leave!)
dirty laundry
clean clothes in drawers
bathroom items
closet clothes/shoes (I didn't hang things right away - I just set them in there)
Put items to go elsewhere in piles outside the room
Reset the timer for 10 minutes
hung clothes
kept going a few minutes to straighten hubby's things - because once all my things were cleared his things bugged me!
FINISHED THE JOB
to make it feel really awesome so it doesn't quickly slip back
sometimes vacuuming / wiping things down
put take elsewhere items away
Take an after photo and DO A HAPPY DANCE!
YOU CAN DO THIS! You deserve to feel good in your home and like your home is supporting and serving you (not the other way around!)
I'm a wildly messy human - if I can do this, so can you! I've been decluttering and organizing my home for years but I still make giant messes surprisingly fast and my home could easily turn back into a giant cluttered mess.
But I don't give up on myself, and I hope you won't give up on your Self either!
The biggest things to remember:
set a realistic, doable intention and stick with it
prepare your body
set a timer
BEGIN
finish the job (whatever that means to you)
